I'm looking for a few great wine lovers...

I know the last few years have been challenging. What I've missed most of all is the sense of community we had when we would gather to taste and talk about wines.

So, I'm starting small and inviting those folks who have been so supportive of my efforts over time.

Our first class back on the Bay is going to be a comparison of some delicious wines from all over the world. It's your chance to taste varieties from different regions - side-by-side - and decide for yourself where your favorite wines may come from.

We're limiting the size of the class in order to create and intimate place where you are free to discuss, agree or disagree, or just learn a bit more about wines from all over the world.

We'll be meeting Wednesday, November 9th, at 7 PM at The Savory Palette in Morro Bay.

Hope you'll join us! Here's the link to purchase tickets for the class:

Wining in the time of Coronavirus...

The GoW & JD pre-lockdown
Random thoughts during the lockdown:

Making the bed every day counts as an accomplishment.

Digging out old recipes that I haven't made in at least 25 years. Comfort food, as they're my mom's recipes.

Rereading books. Re-watching TV series. Not feeling the need to watch anything new.

Surprised at how easy it is to just stay home.

Discovering that it wasn't lack of time that kept me from cleaning out the closet.

Wondering if I can get the airline to refund my money instead of giving me a travel voucher.

Wondering if we'll be able to travel next year.

Hoping we can start pouring wine at the tasting room soon.

Alternating between acceptance and frustration.

Happy that after all these years together, we still really like each other and get along well.

Happy that we have the technology to stay in touch with friends near and far. Some family, too.

Surprised at how many of my friends and colleagues feel driven to create, while I'm just enjoying the downtime, even after almost 2 months.

Wondering how it is that I've lost a few pounds during this time, despite thinking about food all the time.

Hoping I'll be able to get the medical procedures done that I thought would be done by now. Still need some post-cataract surgery clean up.

Enjoying bird watching from my front door. Love the mockingbirds.

Missing baseball season.

Happy that we're locked down in Morro Bay and not in Burbank.

Hoping you're well and safe, wherever you're locked down.

Wining around SLO County...Days 3 & 4

It rained all night, and was raining hard when I padded downstairs at Sara and Bill's. JD slept in while Sara and I caught up over coffee and eggs. Bill was off to coach at a basketball tournament, and it was a lazy morning, so the three of us sat and chatted about family matters for a few hours.

We paid a brief visit to JD's dad and stepmom in Morro Bay, but the rain deterred us from doing anything other than going back to Sara's, opening a bottle of 2007 Alma Rosa Pinot Noir (Santa Rita Hills), and waiting for Bill to return. By the time he did, we were onto a bottle of the 2005 Kiamie Kuveé purchased the day before. We munched on cheese and crackers, and talked way too much about family, and finally it was time to head out to dinner.
