Wining during the last days in Burbank...

The old house in Burbank
Yikes. The Goddess of Wine just realized it's August 1st, and we haven't written anything other than Facebook posts and Tweets since June. It's been an interesting, odd, and tremendously stressful couple of months, with at least another month to go. So here's what's happening with the Goddess and JD:

We're moving! It's really happening. This whole year has been leading up to the move. As previously reported, we started #decluttering in February, even hiring an expert to help us remove the accumulated detritus from our lives. So much stuff gone - so much still to go. But we are traveling MUCH lighter than we have been.

JD & the POD
Over 80% of our remaining stuff has been in a POD since late June; the rest is still to be packed and shipped the last week of August. We have found a great house to rent in Los Osos. Just one block away from JD's 98-year-old dad, and six blocks to his cousins' home, we'll be 10 blocks from the lower end of Morro Bay, 15 minutes from San Luis Obispo (where the Costco is!), and no more than an hour from our favorite wine regions (Santa Barbara County, Paso Robles, Santa Maria, Edna Valley, Arroyo Grande). And 3-1/2 hours closer to Napa, Sonoma and other points North.

We haven't been going to a lot of wine events in the last couple of months, although we have been drinking! Because, you know, we don't want to have to transport a lot of wine. I think we're down to around 10 cases, not including JD's 2011 Rancho Cucamonga 'Vin de Salle du Diner' (Dining Room Wine) Zinfandel. Plus there's still a carboy and a couple of small jugs of his not-yet-bottled 2013 High Desert Syrah, which is pretty tasty, even out of a jug. It's been challenging to stop buying wine, although we've broken down and kept our supply of various Rosés going. Because, you know, Rosé.

We are having a quick and informal going-away party the weekend before we leave. If you haven't received an invitation and would like to join us, email me privately at goddess@goddessofwine.com. It's a BYOB and BYOF(ood) kind of party, as most of our stuff will be packed up for pickup on Monday.

Stay tuned for the continuing adventures of the Goddess and JD!
