Thinking about future wining...

Been trying to figure out why I've been so down this month. Mercury has been retrograde for the last 3 weeks. That could be part of it. Coming up on the third anniversary of my mom's death, and I miss her more than ever, so that's part of it, too.

It's also my birthday week, and I'm hitting a big milestone this year. I've had mixed feelings about it. In this weird world of Los Angeles/Hollywood, so many people are freaked out about getting older, but I've always embraced it. Until this birthday.

OK, just have to say it. I'm turning 60 on the 14th.

Of course, 60 is the new 40, right? A couple of my siblings and cousins and friends are hitting bigger milestones this year, as did JD, so it's not so bad - I'm still younger than lots of people! And having birthdays is a good thing. As they say, consider the alternative. And I do get those senior discounts!

As I enter a new decade, the future is still wide open. I'm putting together a small tasting group - it's been unofficially developing over the last few months, but I want to be able to meet on regular basis and discover new wines together, so I'm going to formalize it a bit. It's still going to be pretty casual and fun, but for serious wine geeks. You know who you are.

I'm also going to put together a series of wine classes - still have to find a venue. Might be my living room to start. Depends on how much response I get. I'm thinking about exploring a different wine region for each class. History, grape varieties, terroir, folklore, tasting, fun. Tell me what you think.

So...Happy Birthday to me! Please help me celebrate - drink something wonderful and tell me about it!

And, if you're in town, come to Sip and Shop with LearnAboutWine on Wednesday, December 14th at the Sherman Oaks Galleria. JD and I will be there, as will Shai Cellars and a few of my wineaux!

Cheers!

Interesting....I'm turning 60 this year too...I think this part of life involves a lot of reflection and realizing all the life lessons we've learned. Like wine, we're getting better with age and we're learning to appreciate life more. Thanks for your insight and Happy Birthday!

Gale - Thanks so much for your kind words! I clicked thru to your website - What a cool product! Just one question: Your wine clipboards seem to be designed for right-handed drinkers. Can they be flipped for those of us who are lefties? I posted a link to your site on Facebook. Cheers!

So YOU'RE the reason for all the FB hits yesterday!!! lol That's great and thank you! You're not the only "lefty" to ask that - I actually have a small stock of left-handed boards. Even though I'm right-handed, I find that I use it all different ways myself. Thanks again and love the blog!
